Yeah, so I went to the "20 Years of IB at SWC" thing (mucho thanks to Carol for taking me). It was nice to see all the old teachers and some people from our time at SWC - David and Courtney Lai, Edgar Lam, John Andru, Rex Pillai, Selina Tang and David Klippenstein, all decked out in a business suit, Versace glasses and styling haircut; man, he scares me with his business-like coolness.
At any rate, there was food, cake cutting, terribly long and politically-spun speeches about IB history, including insights on possible formaldehyde highs in backroom IB planning sessions; there was a student choir performance, more speeches (including whacked-out phrases like "there should be spectator academics" in the rambling address from Dr. Drugge), a really stupid, short neither-here-nor-there 80s-style adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet," even more speeches (with more reiteration of the formaldehyde highs joke - just in case we forgot to laugh the first time), some weird student films, a funny slideshow, door prizes (John Andru won a $25 dancewear certificate), chocolate IB logos, and cake.
As any other IB event, it sucked in a good way, that is, there was the fuzz of unnecessary formality, but I got to meet up with some friends and laugh at the speeches with them. What more could a guy ask for? ;)
Man. But going to such functions does make me reflect on what a social outcast I ultimately am, despite everything. But I am not bitter, in case you may be wondering.
