[This poem definitely warrants an introduction, due to the fortuitously wonderful way in which Trudy inspired me to write it. I phoned her up (back when we actually still talked to each other) and started reading her the more tedious "Behind My Eyes," which I had just begun writing.
Suddenly, there was a pause in the conversation (I think Trudy told me to stay on hold for a second), while I picked up a feather from one of the parrots we had off the floor and looked at it.
When Trudy came back and was ready to listen to my poem, I started with "I found a parrot feather," merely stating a fact. She said, "that's a beautiful line," and I said, "but it's not a line from a poem, I actually found a parrot feather!" ;) I hastily finished the conversation, drafted a new poem and phoned Trudy up to read it to her.]
I found a
parrot feather
I found a parrot
feather
closeness
is destiny
reggae together
sewn tears
midnight fears
wet dreams
and
coffee
stereotyped
toffee
sweetness
of sorrow
see you tomorrow
ask of the
weather
I found a parrot
feather
