Mike-Man's Blast from the Past

5:32 PM

Speaking of 80s capitalist insanity and Michael Moore's new flick, I just saw his 1989 directorial debut, Roger & Me (thanks to Patrick for recommending it).

I was impressed. The film focuses on the fall of Flint, Michigan, (once one of the largest American car manufacturing company towns), ruthless 1980s labour outsourcing practices and the utter lack of concern for communities, whose sweat and blood built the industries that turned around to literally fuck them in the ass.

Roger & Me shows Moore's wit (What other film would show you how to gut a rabbit?), his no-bones approach to investigative reporting (most corporate spokespersons have exposed their hypocrisy in their own words, anyway), and his everlasting belief in resistance to powerlessness, struggle and hope.

Shameful times, these

Nah, it's just business as usual. No point in acting indignant about it.

You and I have no voice; we are defenceless and powerless. However, if we do make a choice and with irony and ire fight fire with fire, we will become what we fought. So it's best not to think about it; pay for what you bought, and get out of the store.
