Nice!
Yeah, I hate UBC. Can't wait to get my degree and get the hell out of there. Hey, are you at UBC or SFU right now? (I forgot.)
Hmmm...now I know 2 disgruntled UBC students.
Who's the other one? ;)
Sorry, you do not know the person.
Ooh, the plot thickens! Well, perhaps I'd like to meet this person. We can share our disdain for UBC and polish our semiautomatic guns while grinning quietly in tacit underderstanding. ;)
My wife is starting at UBC and man do they know how to screw ppl. Both me and her hate UBC with a passion. I thought my school UVic was bad.. UBC is worse.. they're over priced and there's beaurcracy hiding at every corner...
Heh, don't get me started, man. ;) The administration sucks, everything is overpriced to hell and 90% of the profs just don't care. Plus, the online registration system is just messed up.
At first, registering for the upcoming September semester, I didn't get a single course I wanted (not even my honours seminars - and I'm in the English Honours program!). They told me this happened because I failed one science course - two terms ago!. I had to beg, nag, phone and e-mail the department and profs about a thousand times and I finally got all the courses I wanted except two, in which I'm waitlisted in first and second places. What the fuck, eh? ;)
I hate UBC too. I am in 3rd year science at UBC. The profs fucking suck.....it seems like they care more about research then teaching because they sure cannot teach!
And how! Some of them don't even hide the fact that they can't wait to have the lesson over to work on their precious research or publications.
I also can't stand the entire seniority bit, where people fight tooth and nail for tenure, for T.A. positions, for just about everything - so much that there is very little focus left on the actual teaching.
Oh, well; at least you and I are finishing soon. ;) Well...I'm planning to go for two more degrees afterwards (hopefully not at UBC, heh).
I just got accepted to UBC and I hate them already. Informations are hard to be found. Communications isn't working well. They seem to enjoy screwing people up. And this is only the beginning for me. I hope I could survive without wanting to terror the whole management.
They sure do. Some of the people are nice, but the overall system is moral bankruptcy incarnate.
P.S. As an English teacher, I must point out that "information" and "communication" are both non-count nouns, so you should not pluralise them. "Terror," however, is a noun, so you would be better off using "terrorise."
I hate UBC too. HATE ubc. I should have known: I went to ubc YEARS ago, after transferring into the Honours English programme from U of A (a real university). I hated them then, but it seems I forgot, and now am doing graduate studies there (not in English). I can't begin to explain how deeply I hate ubc. endless screw-ups with bureaucracy, course problems, only offering distance education courses, profs who only care about their research, bla bla bla: it's endless, really.
Well, it's a "Tier 1" research institution, supposedly - a world-class university - but, hey, what are you going to do? ;) I think that Tuum est, properly translated, means "Up yours!"
I transferred from the UBCO (the UBC's Kelowna campus) to the UBC one year ago. And like everyone else here, I hate it. For example: one of the classes that I was involved in, I had to log my work hours and hand them in at the end of the semester. I handed in all my paperwork and I received a ZERO! According to them, I didn't hand in anything! Then they started treating everything as my fault because I didn't have a god damn crystal ball to see this happen. Finally after three months of ragging on them, they finally got their act together and gave me a grade.
Well, what can I say? I like some of the professors at UBC very much, but the whole system is rotten from the ground up - the way funds get allocated and spent, the way new projects and construction is run...new educational policies - you name it.
What UBC needs now more than ever is less profit-oriented policy and more student-centred decision-making. In, fact, I would make this aspect of university life mandatory - so no one can bitch if something is not right.
I hate ubc as well.
WTF The profs don't teach anything and just expect us to learn the stuffs all by ourselves. Why should I pay for overpriced tuition for this crap.
and i'm still in 2nd year
i don't see my future
but just 20 or 30 years of studying
you turn out to have little choices
what the hell this school is in top 100 universities???
DAMN HATE UBC
Strong words, Trina, but I cannot disagree completely. In the end, I think I dislike the institution much more than the profs' approach to teaching. I guess it's not completely their fault that they have to become article-writing/essay-grading machines...
On the other hand, everyone I approach (even the best prof!) bristles up and gets defensive about his or her little research niche. No one has any time for my questions. The classes are taught to the lowest common denominator...but I'm beating a dead horse here. Grit your teeth and bear it.
