Oh, man, they're going to make Terminator 4, but Arnie won't be in it (according to rumour). Dammit, dammit, dammit!
Ah, what the hell, I'm a sucker for sequels and prequels; I have to see them all, no matter how bad some plot directions at times turn out, be it Alien, Predator, Alien vs. Predator, Robocop, The Terminator, Rambo, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Back to the Future, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon, The Godfather, Star Wars, or The Matrix. Then, in my mind, I reassemble the good parts and pretend the others don't exist; there are tons of pop-cultural artefacts and clever dystopian-comedy gems in these films (indeed, perhaps this is the essence that drives sequels).
Let's admit it; we've all been doing Phantom Edits for years, perhaps even wanting to see our favourite heroes on screen only so as to have more fodder for our busy imaginations. Then again, I was younger at the height of these films' popularity; Arnie and Stallone were my gods (even now, I have a lot of respect for their work).
Wait, I got it! Take away all the parts that don't fit - Alien vs. Predator, Episodes I-III, the last two Dr. Hennibal Lecter films, and The Matrix (also the new James Bond films, if you wish, [I haven't seen the old ones much, though]), and you'll see that what's missing are those wonderful, wonderful 80s (and perhaps early 90s).
Ignorance is bliss, but hey, it seems I'm not the only one who has a bad case of nostalgia, since, along with a new Terminator film, they're planning to make Rambo IV (avec Stallone, thank god) and Indiana Jones 4 (surprisingly, with George Lucas's writing input; I thought his film-making skills have atrophied and he became embedded in a digital video editing workstation). Don't even get me started on the Young Hannibal movie, heh. Well, what the hell. I say, bring it all on. ;)
