OK, "Lost" is one unsettling show. Man. I only saw the first two episodes and it already gives me the shivers. It's the oldest trick in the book, though: it's what they don't show you that freaks you out the most. *shudder*

finally you gave it a try. And yet you know nothing ;-)

fuck lost and the lost makers. i wouldn't mind some of the grass that they are smoking though. i stopped watching it back in september because you can't fucking show the backstory 2 seasons in a row and not advance the mainline at all. I'm gonna read the recaps once the show is over, 'cause i'm still kinda curious.

ehm........................................................... you do it as you like it. I love LOST.

Posted by boon23 on February 16, 2006 1:14 PM

Boon and Mite: Actually, this is to be expected; you reveal the plot, you end the series. This is precisely why "24" is so amazing - because every season they reinvent (or try to reinvent) things that need to be uncovered or, rather, discovered.

What bothers me a little bit is that "Lost" is so damn unsettling. Is it me, or is it really creepy sometimes?

Oh, I'm not here arguing personal choice, just expressing my silent rebelion against shitty marketing tactics.

Posted by dmitry on February 16, 2006 2:43 PM

In that sense, I am fully in agreement with you.

Posted by Mike on February 16, 2006 2:45 PM

wow, we posted at the same time.

24 manages to advance the plot.
lost - not so much. I think character development is important but not at the cost of overall story progression. This is precisely what happened "The wheel of time" series. In one interview the author has said that he's prepared to go on writing books as long as people buy it. Don't get me wrong, interesting universe is a cause for celebration because it will undoubtedly produce many interesting stories. But for god's sake finish the story you've already started. Draging it out like that pisses me off and leaves me unfulfilled.

I was quite a bit into Lost when I watched it (with following people's theories online and what not). I checked last night's episode's recap and holy shit. Familiar strategy to give up as little as possible of the plot. Fuck you! A story that floated online is that the makers of the show really have NO plot, they are just swinging it as they go along. I wouldn't be surprised.

Heh. Cool.

Anyways. I tend to generalise from experience, so you may be right about "Lost" in this case. Regardless, if they really are suckering us like that, eventually the network will pull the show and we'll never know how it ended; that happened a few times already.

Now, what is this "Wheel of Time" show?

Posted by Mike on February 16, 2006 2:58 PM

Not a show, it's a series of books. 11 as of now, mildy amusing brain candy, i've outline the problem above.

Oh yeah, Lost _is_ creepy once in a while. It's a well made entertaining show that doesn't seem to go anywhere.
Dixi.

What I like about LOST is that you don't know where it's going and I am very sure that it will be going somewhere. There are some pretty clver people at work there. The second season feels a bit stretched, that's right but overall it is great thrilling entertainment, driven by interesting characters and a cool mystery plot. My personal theory: the island is one big lab and everyone on it is in testing phase. The medics of the lab work with hallucinogens, magnetism and other stuff to test the subjects reactions. When in the last episode that timer went beyond zero and these strange symbols revealed some kind of code, I was really fascinated. This one has got me from the very beginning and since then I prefer it to 24, although it is also one of my favorite shows,

Mite: Sounds interesting. As for "Lost" - *shrug*.

Boon: Ag! Don't reveal any info! I've only seen two episodes!

Posted by Mike on February 17, 2006 12:45 PM

Nothing revealed...
the laboratory theory is just that without any proof and the timer thing won't help you understand anything better or worse. I am pretty good in telling details that don't spoil everything, or at least I hope so.

What timer? I'm confused. Maybe I need to see more episodes. ;)

Posted by Mike on February 17, 2006 4:13 PM

you do need to see more episodes. You do need to see far more episodes... watch... consume... get addicted!!!

Posted by boon23 on February 17, 2006 4:17 PM

Noooooo! ;) No, but seriously, it all sounds very interesting.

This is like chatting here...

Posted by boon23 on February 17, 2006 4:21 PM

Nothing wrong with that. ;) You guys act as if I'm suddently going to run out of webspace. I've got like a gig more!

Posted by Mike on February 17, 2006 4:24 PM

Hey, it's not as pointless as that 65+ comment one we had going, for no apparent reason... Haha.

I think Lost is a pretty good show, however, I like 24 better. Speaking of which... I missed the last two episodes! >:(
