Remember my recent woes with my DVD drive? Well, I (unsuccessfully) appealed to some forums, took a look at the LG FAQ, tried fixing the registry, and read the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles, one after another.

Finally, having despaired of software solutions, I started playing around with the two IDE drives' jumpers. At first, I tried rejumpering the hard drive, which didn't work. Curiously enough, the DVD drive was detected regardless of the hard drive's jumper settings!

Then, remembering the boot-up features of newer motherboards, I jumpered the DVD drive as master and the hard drive as slave and set the machine to boot from the slave drive - and it worked! Don't ask me how or why, though. Such are the mysteries of Pandora. ;)
