I think this piece needs a little introduction. I teach a lot of 1:1 writing classes these days, most of them focussed on in-class essay writing with time constraints (e.g. TOEFL). In order to discourage my students from trying to make their work as perfect as possible, I usually remove the Backspace and both Delete keys from the keyboard and tell them to type the essay as fast as possible - so that they have the introduction, two body paragraphs and the conclusion down at the very least - before they edit the essay in the remaining three or five minutes.
